Electric Fireplace Inserts
Electric fireplace inserts and built-in fireboxes from Dimplex, priced $709 to $3,949. These are the units that sit inside an opening rather than hang on a wall: Multi-Fire XHD fireboxes, the Revillusion range, the BF built-in series and Opti-myst water mist cassettes. Every one runs on household power with no gas line, flue or chimney.

Dimplex
Built-In Electric Fireboxes and Inserts
Twenty two firebox units from Dimplex, the only brand we carry in this format and the one that named it. Insert and firebox describe the same thing here: a sealed unit built into a cavity so the finished wall or surround reads as the fireplace, with nothing above it but the mantel you choose to add.
The opening decides the model
Every unit on this page is built in, which means the cavity comes first and the model second. Some go into a newly framed enclosure, some into a fireplace opening that no longer has a working flue. Widths run from 20 inches on the Opti-myst cassettes to 45 on the largest BF firebox, and each product page publishes width, height and depth in its specification table. Measure the cavity you already have, including depth, before you choose. A firebox that is an inch too deep for the wall behind it cannot be made to fit later.
How the flame is produced
This is where the models genuinely differ. Multi-Fire XHD uses high contrast LED flame with improved brightness so it reads day or night, and ships either with hand finished logs or an acrylic ember bed. Revillusion adds Thruview, which lets you see through the flame to a brick pattern interior instead of a mirrored back, plus a Mirage panel that shows flame with no reflections. Opti-myst cassettes work on a different principle again: ultrasonic technology pushes a fine water mist through light to produce flame and smoke together.
Heat, controls and power
Heat is supplemental on every model and rated in square feet, from 400 on the smaller BF fireboxes up to 1,000 on Multi-Fire XHD. The BF range uses a fan forced heater with automatic shut off. Revillusion offers selectable wattage at 1375, 1975 or 2575 watts with a built in thermostat, a one hour timer and automatic shut off. On the XHD range the settings and temperature display hide when not in use. Larger units are wired for 240 volts, so confirm the circuit with an electrician first. Every unit carries the Dimplex factory warranty, valid because we are an authorized dealer.
