Frequently Asked Questions

What is a portable power station?
A rechargeable battery with a built-in inverter and outlets, so it delivers wall-style AC power plus USB and 12V without fuel, fumes or noise. Recharge from a wall socket, a car port or solar panels. Sizes run from pocket units that keep phones and laptops going to 5,000Wh-class systems that back up a home circuit.
What is a solar generator?
A portable power station paired with solar panels. There is no engine: the panels charge the battery, and the battery powers your devices. The term is marketing shorthand, but the combination is real and useful, because it recharges anywhere the sun reaches without fuel or maintenance.
What size portable power station do I need?
Add up the watts of what you want to run at the same time, then pick a station whose output rating comfortably exceeds that number. For runtime, compare watt-hours: a 268Wh unit runs a 60W device for roughly four hours, while a 5,100Wh unit runs the same device for days. Fridges and power tools also need surge headroom, so check the surge rating, not just the continuous one.
How much does a solar generator cost?
The stations we carry run from about $239 for a compact 268Wh unit to about $8,099 for flagship home-backup systems, before panels. Folding solar panels add a few hundred dollars depending on wattage. Mid-size units in the 1,000 to 2,000Wh range, which cover most camping and outage needs, typically land near the middle of that span.
Can a solar generator power a house?
The essentials, yes. A 2,000W, 5,000Wh-class station will carry a refrigerator, lights, phones and a router through an outage lasting a day or two. Running a whole house including HVAC needs the largest expandable systems with extra batteries and a transfer switch installed by an electrician. Sizing starts with which circuits you actually need to keep alive.
