Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need a fireplace screen for gas logs?
With vented gas logs in an open fireplace, yes, a screen is the barrier between the room and a live flame, and on many gas appliances a protective screen or barrier ships with the unit because the glass front runs hot enough to burn skin. With sealed direct vent units the factory barrier screen does the job, and the decorative screen is a style choice rather than a safety requirement.
How do you install fireplace doors?
Glass doors mount to the fireplace opening with clamps or masonry anchors behind the frame: the frame is set into the opening, leveled, and the brackets are tightened against the inner walls. It is a measure-twice job, since doors are sized to the exact opening width and height. Model-specific doors, such as the Dimplex glass doors we carry for its fireboxes, attach to their matching unit without drilling.
How do you clean glass fireplace doors?
Wait until the glass is fully cold, then use a cleaner made for fireplace glass or a paste of water and white ash rather than household glass spray, which can bake ammonia residue into the surface. Wipe, buff dry, and never spray anything onto hot glass, because the thermal shock can crack it.
