What a side burner is for

A grill does one thing well and cannot do the rest. Sauces, sides, boiling, reducing and anything in a pan all need a burner rather than a grate, and without one you are walking back to the kitchen mid cook. A built-in side burner puts that within arm's reach of the grill, which is why outdoor kitchens that get used tend to have one and ones that do not tend to sit idle. Output is published in BTU per model, and one or two burner configurations are both available.

Built-in construction

These are designed to drop into a masonry island or a cart alongside the grill, not to stand alone. Stainless steel construction throughout is what lets them live outdoors permanently. Cutout dimensions are published for every model and belong in the island drawings before the stonework goes in, because a burner is not something you retrofit into a finished counter without cutting.

Fuel and matching

Natural gas and propane are separate SKUs, so confirm the fuel matches the grill it sits beside. Buying the burner from the same manufacturer as the grill keeps the trim, the finish and the control knobs consistent across the island, which is difficult to fix later. Several models include a cover, which matters on a burner that sits open to weather between uses. Everything carries its manufacturer factory warranty, valid because we are an authorized dealer, and freight is free to the lower 48.
